The commandment of God is to believe in Jesus as the Christ and the Son of God. (1 John 3:23, John 20:31, John 6:29)
1 John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Those who believe in Jesus as the Christ become children of God and have eternal life. (John 1:12, John 3:16)
John 1:12 but as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Also, like Jesus, we must love to save the soul. (John 13:34, John 15:17)
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
